Our focus is on helping Hickory Woods Elementary provide the best educational environment for our children by partnering with our principal, teachers, staff, families, and local businesses to provide experiences and resources which enhance and compliment our children's education and our school.

The Hickory Woods PTA consists of the board, membership coordinator, committees, and members.  Anyone interested in participating on the board or one of our many committees can contact us for additional information.

What is the PTA?
The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) was founded more than 100 years ago.  It provides support, information, and resources to families focused on the health and education of children.  Local PTAs (such as Hickory Woods) are linked to the state and national PTA organizations, forming a nationwide network of members working on behalf of all children and youth.  The PTA is the largest volunteer association in the United States devoted solely to the welfare of children and has more than 5 million members in 50 state branches plus a European Congress.

How can I get involved?
Please join the PTA!  By joining you show your support for our school, a close relationship between parents and teachers, and the programs that the PTA provides for our children.  As your schedule allows, we also have many opportunities to volunteer.  Please attend the PTA meetings.  During the meetings, we discuss PTA programs and committees and receive updates on what different grades are working on and financing.  All meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month at 7 pm in the library at the school.  See our calendar on the home page for additional information and agendas.

What are the benefits of belonging to the PTA?
• Participate in developing enrichment programs for the kids
• Meet other parents from the school
• Learn what is going on throughout the school
• Contribute toward making your child’s education the best possible

What are the dues collected from your membership used for?
A portion of the dues remain in the Hickory Woods PTA with a portion going to the National and State PTA organizations.  At the National and State level, our dues are used to create training and resources for the local unit, fund programs such as Reflections and most importantly advocacy activities for education.  As we have seen quite painfully in our state in the last couple of years, we need all of the advocacy we can get to ensure the government prioritizes a high-quality education for our children.  At Hickory Woods, the local portion of the dues along with fundraising activities are used to provide activities and equipment that the regular budget cannot afford. A few of the things the PTA has accomplished in past school years include:
• Otter Day (free books for every child)
• Author Visits and Assemblies
• Lunch on Field Day
• Reflections program (a national PTA art program)
• Teacher classroom supply reimbursements
• 5th-grade breakfast and party
• Staff Appreciation
