PTA President's Corner

Winter Shop:

The winter shop is December 9th - 13th. For those who are not familiar, it’s a little store set up in the media center where students have an opportunity to buy gifts for friends and family. The PTA receives a profit on the total sales from the company that provides the merchandise. All of those funds are given to the HWE Family Holiday Fund. This program offers assistance to families at our school who could use a little extra support during the holidays.

  • If your family could use support this season contact Mrs. Shannon or fill out the above HWE Family Holiday Support link. All information is kept confidential.

  • The PTA needs volunteers to help run the store throughout the week. Once a shopping schedule is confirmed, a sign up genius will be sent out for volunteers.

Snack Shack:

This week Mrs. Gurley’s class is on the schedule for Snack Shack. Drop off snacks or drinks between the front doors at school. Gift card contributions can be left in the office. Please label everything with Snack Shack. The Snack Shack will also take any unwanted Halloween candy!

Board of Education Meeting:

At the last Board of Education meeting changes were presented for the proposal to repurpose Geisler Middle School. How does it affect HWE? With Geisler being turned into the Education Services Building and Adult Transition Program, HWE, Meadowbrook and Guest students need to be placed into a different middle school. The new path for HWE students is the following: HWE will feed into Sarah Banks Middle School and then into Western High School. Click here for more information regarding this proposal. Current policies for in-district transfers and school of choice will remain the same.

Membership:

Becoming a PTA member is important even if you don't plan to go to meetings or volunteer. The $12 you spend to be a member goes back into the school, it helps the PTA pay for things like student field trips and teacher classroom support.
